Dubai Islands coastal works have been awarded to Mar Marine & Building Contracting by developer Nakheel, according to Gulf News.
Dubai Islands coastal works: scope and timeline
The contract covers marine and beach works on Island B. Mar Marine will upgrade about 3 km of the island’s western shoreline. It will also add 320 metres of beach frontage near the Bay Villas development. Island B sits within the wider Dubai Islands project, and the shoreline upgrade will run along roughly 3 km of its western coast. In short, the works aim to upgrade the shoreline while homes are built nearby.
In addition, the package includes new breakwaters, removal of existing protective rock revetments, a new beach near Bay Villas and repairs to several existing beach areas. Nakheel announced the award on 8 October. Completion is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.
Bay Villas and the wider Dubai Islands project
Bay Villas is a community of 636 villas and townhouses on Island B. Earlier, in August 2025, Nakheel awarded Fibrex Contracting a Dh2.6 billion contract to build the homes. Meanwhile, the marine works will proceed in parallel with that construction.
Dubai Islands covers 18.6 square kilometres across five islands and extends the Deira coastline. Overall, the masterplan targets more than 230,000 residents in about 62,000 homes, over 11,000 hotel keys and more than 4,000 branded residences.
Why the Dubai Islands coastal works matter
Khalid Al Malik, chief executive of Dubai Holding Real Estate, said the works will create a high-quality coastal environment alongside the masterplan. Mar Marine’s general manager, Nabil Abou Rjaili, said the team would draw on its marine engineering experience. However, both statements come from the companies, so they carry a promotional tone.
