Abu Dhabi authorities have extended the waiver on tourist taxes for event tickets until the end of 2024, to promote the tourism and events industries. The waiver, which exempts organisers from the standard 10% tourism tax on ticket sales, is part of a broader effort to encourage industry expansion.
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has also prolonged the exemption of costs associated with issuing, distributing, and promoting event tickets across the emirate. Saleh Mohammed Al Geziry, the director-general of tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, emphasised the significance of supporting event partners and organisers, highlighting their pivotal role in the emirate’s tourism and entertainment landscape.
This initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s strategic vision to enhance its position as a premier destination for tourism and events. The extension of the tourism fee waiver underscores the commitment of local authorities to provide sustained backing for the industry’s development, particularly amidst ongoing global challenges.
Abu Dhabi’s tourism and events industry is expected to grow, and the tourism tax cut is one of many recent initiatives to support this growth.
Other incentives include the reduction of tourism and municipality fees for hotels in Abu Dhabi, as well as updates to the holiday home policy. Under this policy, farmhouse owners can now acquire licences to convert their properties into Holiday Homes “Short Term Rentals”. Landlords and residential unit owners can obtain more than one holiday home licence for multiple units.
